TOM T. TURKEY with EMPIRE CARPETS LYNN HAULDREN
November 19, 2014 by Animal RentalsHere is a television commercial (circa 2002) of spokesperson LYNN HAULDREN of EMPIRE CARPETS and ANIMAL RENTALS very own animal actor “TOM T.TURKEY”. During the filming Lynn was a real trooper as TOM could be a bit testy at times. In fact, both TOM and Lynn became good friends. However, for some reason the big bird never returned Lynn’s invitations to be the guest of honor at his home to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Today TOM spends his days as a member of ANIMAL RENTALS petting zoo and animal displays. Few visitors who see the impressive turkey do not realize they are in the presence of a television star.
Lynn Holdren continued as Empire Carpets spokesperson until his death in 2011.

SOME REAL MONKEY BUSINESS
by Mindy the MonkeyAs Animal Rentals official Animal Ambassador, I love any organization that promotes the conservation and welfare of domestic and exotic animals. Fortunately there are hundreds, even thousands, of just those types of organizations all over the world. But out of all of them, my favorite is the one that is dedicated to me and my brothers and sisters like me – the Simian Society of America.
The Simian Society of America is dedicated to a lifetime of care for primates in captivity. What that means is that they help people understand and care for us monkeys, and they help monkeys live the best life they possibly can. How could I not love them?! I am a lifetime member of the Simian Society of America, and they are my personal number one charity. I even have an ad in one of their magazines! So it was very exciting for me to take a break from our traveling College Entertainment and Exotic Animal Shows to attend the Simian Society’s National Convention Appreciation Day in early October.
The convention was in Branson, Missouri – about 8 1/2 hours from Chicago – so dad and I road-tripped it once again. Once we got there, we had tons of fun hanging out and talking to people who love monkeys and other primates as much as we do. And Dad and I got to give a good talk about living and working and traveling together. But my favorite part of the whole thing was hanging out with other monkeys…it was awesome! At home I get to spend time with my Uncle Monk – who tells wonderful stories about “the old days” – but at the convention I got to meet all sorts of different monkeys from all over the country. AND I had a “date” with a really nice male monkey. Dad says he is a prospective mate for me. I don’t know about all of that, but it was nice to get to know him for a while. Maybe we will see each other at next year’s convention. Maybe sooner!
So now you’ve heard a little about my favorite charitable animal organization – the Simian Society of America. What is your favorite animal charity and why? How are you involved with it?

ON THE SET WITH ANIMAL RENTALS!
November 15, 2014 by Animal RentalsA call to ANIMAL RENTALS for a cute bunny to pose with a little girl for a national catalog was answered in a flash. Handler Barbara soon arrived at the studio with a number of potential “stars” accompanying her. Each animal was inspected by the producer, director and photographer for temperament, color, size and a face that was “camera friendly”. Once all were in agreement, the new “animal actor” was cleaned, groomed and “made up”. She was introduced to her companion for the shoot, a professional child-model. After a few moments to get acquainted, model and rabbit took their places on the set. Here is the result.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!
November 11, 2014 by Animal RentalsThey were making good time while on the way to do a college show at Southwest Tennessee Community College last night until the “check engine” light went on. Seconds later, the engine stalled and the ANIMAL RENTALS van slowly crept to a stop about two hours from their destination. Knowing they would never make it in time to do the exotic animal show, Bill Hoffmann called the Chicago office. An hour later, Mark pulled away from the curb. Driving non stop throughout the night he met Bill in the early morning. After transferring the animals to another van, Mark continued to the College minus Mindy the Monkey who refused to leave her dad. While waiting for the tow truck, Mindy amused herself by playing with the steering wheel, while Bill worried that Mark would arrive on time to do the show. A phone call from Mark a few hours later eased his pain. Mark was setting up for the first show, the animals were all fine and the show was on schedule.
Later that day, an exhausted and relieved Bill Hoffman drove back to Chicago with Mindy fast sleep in the passenger seat. They would be home in no time, with a new alternator flawlessly doing its job.
Neither rain, sleet, snow or a busted alternator can stop ANIMAL RENTALS from completing their job. Alternators may die, but the show will go on!

THE ANIMALS OF HALLOWEEN–MYTHS & FACTS!
October 23, 2014 by Animal RentalsGenerally, most of the animals that have come to symbolize HALLOWEEN are nocturnal making it almost safe to say that if an animal comes in all black, it could be considered linked to the supernatural and scary. Sadly, many of the myths attributed to these creatures are completely false. Yet, after hundreds of years, many still believe that the presence of a crow or raven symbolizes a bad omen.
Below are just a few examples of the myths and facts about our HALLOWEEN FRIENDS.
MYTH: SNAKES are slimy and clammy to the touch. FACT: No snake is slimy with quite smooth and dry skin. Also, snakes cannot hypnotize humans and animals with their eyes.MYTH: VAMPIRE BATS bite the neck and suck blood from people. FACT: Vampire bats live only in tropical regions of Central and South America. They feed primarily on animal blood by lapping (not sucking), using their sharp teeth to make a quick slice along the skin.
MYTH: The bite of a SPIDER can kill you. FACT: While it is true that there are many poisonous spiders throughout the world, the bite from one of them is not much worse than a bee sting. An allergic reaction to a spider bite is more serious but no human has died from its venom.
MYTH: BLACK CATS are familiars of witches and bring bad luck. FACT: Black cats are just that—black cats.
So the next time you go to our website, animalrentals.com to book our Exotic Petting Zoo, go to MINDY’S MENAGERIE and look for our special Halloween creatures: “Cuddles” the Tarantula, “Casper” the Burmese Python, “Sylvester” the Skunk and “Mrs. Clean” the Hairless Rat.

ANIMAL RENTALS SPEAKS AT SIMIAN SOCIETY OF AMERICA CONVENTION.
October 18, 2014 by Animal RentalsOn October 10th Bill Hoffmann, accompanied with well know animal ambassador MINDY THE MONKEY, attended the Simian Society of America convention in Branson, MO. Bill, a life time member, spent an enjoyable enjoyable afternoon conversing with fellow primate owners about their pets and sharing his adventures with Mindy as they traveled all over the country lecturing about the care, conservation and preservation of not just primates but of all the members of the animal kingdom.
A little history about the Simian Society of America. While the SSA discourages the keeping of primates by individuals who do not understand their complex needs and the multitude of problems associated with keeping them, the society offers health, diet, psychological well-being and management information as well as access to a network of experienced primate caretakers for those who are committed to providing captive primates with long-term, care conducive homes. They are a non-profit organization founded in 1957 to improve the welfare of primates in captivity. Among its members are veterinarians, primatologists and zoolological officials.
