- Other than humans, the main predator of the adult tortoise are jaguars.
- The Red Foot Tortoise is one of the most popular pet tortoises in the US.
- Like most tortoises, they grow rapidly for the first 5-10 years, then growth slows with age.
- The Red Foot Tortoise does not hibernate but goes thru a “winter slow down” period during cooler weather and shorter day lengths.
- After breeding, females bury 5-15 eggs in nests excavated in the forest floor.
- The Red Foot Tortoise is known in Brazil as Jabuti and known in Venezuela as Morrocoy.
